advice (from a friend)
03:18
|
|
||
i think i want a fresh new start
another chance.
i want a brand new look
a second glance.
you never learn ‘till its too late
your already old
you can fix whats broken
or you can do as you told.
you can’t be all in one second
and then not follow through.
you can’t pay attention to the road
and text your honey-boo.
you can make your parents proud
by being only you.
and you’ll find the answers, all you seek
by following your truth.
i think i want a fresh new start
another chance.
i want a brand new look
a second glance.
you never win an argument
unless you see it their way.
there would never be a problem
if you had an ounce of empathy.
you can’t be all in one second
and then not follow through.
you can’t pay attention to the road
and text your honey-boo.

grass aliens
01:17
|
|
||
our shadows looked like aliens
as we walked across the sod fields
in the evening on a summers day.
you can see our footprints in the grass
erased in time with winds from afar
just as everything in this world.
i forged your signature to
get away with murder once again
tempting though it was to turn myself in.
oh, and i sold my soul to satan for
something I don't even use anymore
it just takes up room in the basement now.

twitching
03:48
|
|
||
i felt you twitching on your way down into your slumber
it startled me at first
i was awakened in a moment to a wonder
i can’t help being a skeptic
i can’t un-see what i’ve seen
i just don’t know how anymore
i watched you cut the ties of consciousness
that night you wandered
its okay to dream, its about as far as you can go and still be somewhere.
i wish that i could follow you wherever you go
i think i’d do it all the time

octopus tree
05:19
|
|
||
we drove west out of Portland
took a route through the forrest
we stopped to wade in a river
with mountains wrapped all around us
i'll never forget the way you looked
never forget the time it took
we wound up on the coastline.
the thought of rain was in the air
as we walked out to the octopus tree.
i needed to say goodbye to something
i'd never seen
i can't shake this feeling
i know it will all be over soon
and I'm ready
you call me out on my bullshit
and I'm afraid to admit it.
i stared out at the sea stacks
and houses perched along the cliff
the birds calling each other
i felt something familiar
i hadn't felt it in 15 years
it used to come when I visited home
but then my home moved away with me
the thought of rain was in the air
as we walked out to the octopus tree.
i needed to say goodbye to something
i'd never seen
i can't shake this feeling
i know it will all be over soon
and I'm ready

no place like you
03:45
|
|
||
i’ve fallen once again
in this snare i’ve set for myself
there’s no place i’d rather be
no place like you
i’m frightened once again
when your eyes cut through me like the sun
but their’s no light like yours
no light like you
well i’ve given up at last
but this time i have now wont
and you know i could never find
no one like you
no place like you

daylight
01:51
|
|
||
shadows wake me up in the morning
but never at night
keeping my eyes on the doorway
waiting to be surprised
daylight falls on me like water
come dripping down my neck
give me, pray, give me a reason
to wake up every day
